Rashtriya Military Schools (RMS) are prestigious residential public schools in India, established to provide high-quality education and prepare young boys for a career in the Indian Armed Forces.
The first such school, known as King George Royal Indian Military College (KGRIMC), was founded in 1925 at Jalandhar (later moved to Chail after partition). Initially, these schools were set up to train sons of defence personnel for entry into the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst (UK).
After independence, these institutions were restructured and renamed as Rashtriya Military Schools, opening admission to civilians as well. Today, they function under the control of the Directorate General of Military Training, Ministry of Defence, Government of India.
These schools are affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and are among the top residential schools providing military-oriented education.
